Guber polls: Niger APC candidate inches to victory, wins 17 LGs

The All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago is set to win the governorship contest in Niger State.

He has clinched 17 Local Government Areas out of 23 so far released on Sunday night.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Alh Isah Liman Kantigi got five LGs.

According to the results collated at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, State headquarters in Minna at about 9:48pm by the State Returning Officer, Professor Clement Allawa, Hon. Bago won in Chanchaga, Bosso, Lapai, Bida, Tafa, Gurara, Paikoro , Suleja and Katcha.

Other LGs secured by the APC candidate include Magama, Rafi, Kontagora, Agaie, Mariga, Mokwa, Wushishi and Borgu.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Alh. Isa Liman Kantigi won in five local governments of Edati, Munya, Gbako, Lavun and Agwara.

The State returning officer before adjourning collation to 9am today, Monday, said results were still being expected from three more LGs.

The remaining three LGs where results are being awaited comprise of Mashegu, Rijau and Shiroro.

Niger State has 25 local government areas.
