About 140 political thugs have been arrested in a mop up campaign by soldiers deployed to Enugu to provide security for Saturday’s governorship and State House of Assemblies elections.

The hoodlums were arrested with arms and ammunition in the University town of Nsukka in Enugu North Senatorial District and other dangerous weapons which suggested they were targeting to disrupt the elections.

DAILY POST gathered that the thugs were arrested from a popular hotel in Nsukka where they were perfecting their plans in the early hours of today.

Sources accused the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Mr. Walter Ozioko of mobilizing the thugs for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

However, when contacted, the council chairman said he is a civilized person and would not get involved in renting of thugs.

Ozioko said if thugs were arrested they should be prosecuted by the police.

He added that “elections are going on smoothly in Nsukka.”
